Course Syllabus for Math 400

MATH 400 - ADVANCED CALCULUS I - 3 sem. hours
COURSE SYLLABUS: SPRING 2000
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Sets and functions, Series and sequences for real numbers, limits and
continuity on metric spaces, Differentiation, Proofs.
COURSE TEXT:
Introduction to Analysis, 5th edition, by Edward D. Gaughan, Brooks/ Cole, 1998.
Topics to be covered: Most of the topics of Chapter
0 - 4 and 6 from the text.
GRADING STANDARDS:
The following components will determine the final grade.
1. Home Assignments - At the end of each topic you will be assigned some problems from the textbook or from some other source. Sometimes the assignment will be collected and graded and other times one or two problems from the assignment will be chosen and student will be asked to do it in class. Total score from all home assignments will be 200 points.
2. Tests - Four one-hour tests. Each test will be worth 100 points. Test will be comprised of questions discussed in class, home assignments, solved examples in the text, and any other assigned problems. Tests will be announced in advanced. You can expect one test every three week.
3. Mid-term Examination - 100 points.
4. Final Examination - 200 points.
5. Research Paper: (For graduate students only) - 100 points.
